The Wise Man
Stoic Philosopher Seneca once said, “There is nothing the wise man does reluctantly”. I love this as a reminder because often we get caught in daily boring tasks or mundane routines and think why me? Even the best athletes don’t want to train everyday. Shooting free throws or that difficult leg workout might be the last thing you want to do, it’s so much easier to skip it and watch netflix or play video games instead. But the wise man knows that the way to become elite is to do the daily work even when it feels boring.
One way to make these not so exciting tasks get done is to make it a game or competition. “Gamify” the boring! Steph Curry knows that to be an elite shooter and in his case the best shooter he knows he must make it a challenge. Somedays before the workout begins he knows he wants to make 500 and off days it might be 1000 made buckets. He tracks misses too, to be able to compare that day to his best scores. He used to end his workouts at the free throw line with 5 swishes in a row (Wow! This is epic and crazy difficult). Is it any wonder why he’s so confident and accurate at the line? What are must do’s in your life or training that can get stale sometimes? How can you make it a game? Let’s go!
