Focus on the Inner Work

“When we give precedence to the inner, both inner and outer fall into place. When we follow the opposite course, nothing will give us what we truly need. Only emptiness will result” Tom Morris

If we are focused on only the external achievements… points per game, awards, popularity etc. there is no winning or feeling good forever because those accomplishments are always fleeting. You have a great game scoring one day so you feel strong but then have a lower scoring game and feel vulnerable. You win the MVP one year but then are criticized so you feel attacked. You are popular today because you played well but then lose steam when someone else plays well. This is a losing game.

But if instead you focus on the inner work ( your consistent effort and attention) everything will fall into place eventually. You work really hard and focused on your training…. Then you are going to have more skills and average more points. Your an awesome teammate and are coachable at practice… then awards will follow. You are someone who is a hard worker, help teammates, and show up with humility and discipline… then people can feel that and popularity among the good ones will follow.

Want the external stuff.. start working on yourself and the rest will follow.
